Jomsom is Geographically located in the north of Annapurna range allowing a beautiful glimpse of the mountain. From here Nepal’s spectacular diversity appears at its finest. At the east, Mt. Dhaulagiri is the regional headquarter of the Forbidden kingdom of Mustang with its mesmerizing beauty. Jomsom Muktinath is a popular and easy trek encompassing very interesting Gurung and Thakali villages. Although this trek is suitable for family treks, there are a couple of challenges with climbing up thousands of stone steps at Ulleri hill at the beginning of the trek. It is also for them who are trekking for the first time and is ideal for those who would like to hike below the altitude of 4000m. Easy walk, pristine air, diverse culture and landscapes, apple orchards, rhododendron forests are a few features that Mustang offer. While going up to Kali Gandaki river, the trek initially passes through terrace hills before entering the desert like landscape of Mustang as you come to Muktinath. Muktinath is an important pilgrimage town for both Hindus and Buddhists as you could take blessings from 108 water spouts, eternal flame and Buddhist monastery. There are several options for day hikes around Jomsom Muktinath area. From Jomsom one could also take a short 25 minutes flight to Pokhara and back. Whereas, coming from Pokhara there is a direct bus leaving every day at 8.00am from Hallanchowk bus station to Jomsom, which takes about 12 hours. An alternate means is also a regular jeep which can be booked from Pokhara. This is a short trek but still very popular among trekking enthusiasts, as it attracts more than 75% of all the trekkers annually. As for the challenging geography and the access to motorable roads, it is wise to plan a trek for 5 to 10 days in this region.
